First of all, anybody that’s owned a pool knows that it can be difficult to choose between salt or chlorine because of all of the competing information that is out there right now.
Myth: Salt water pools do not have chlorine.
Did you know that a salt water pool actually has chlorine in it? This type of pool actually converts the salt into chlorine. It is this very chlorine that helps keep the the pool and spa water clean.
Myth: They are low maintenance.
The pH levels tend to be higher in salt water pools, thus increasing how much monitoring is required. In addition, frequent doses of muriatic acid need to bed added in order to keep the pool looking crystal clear. tend to be higher and require increased monitoring. Not only that, but the salt cells need frequent cleaning.
Myth: They are inexpensive to maintain.
Between the couple thousand dollars that is spent getting the salt water chlorinators up and going, the salt cells cost around $600 and require replacing every couple of year. cost several hundred to a couple thousand dollars just to get up and running.
Not only that, but the salt water that spills onto your surround patio and yard can also cause damage.
Myth: They are easy to maintain.
It is hard to main the chlorine levels in the salt water pools and being unable to properly maintain this type of pool will cause the pool equipment to shut down.
